THOUSAND ISLANDS, ONTARIO, CANADA
Sited along the rugged north side of the St. Lawrence seaway, this residence perches along the ancient Canadian Shield rock formation taking full advantage of the amazing waterway views. The house is formed into two pieces that are connected via a glazed bridge, leaving the existing rock formation virtually untouched. Subtle inflection of the forms open up views and creates an informal feel to the vernacular gable forms as they sit on their rugged stone bases. Exterior materials and colors are all designed to blend into the rugged wooded setting while interiors are bright and glassy, opening the house to long southerly views over the seaway and the spruce forest that surround the house.
A process committed to collaboration and exploration.
