BOIS BLANC ISLAND, MICHIGAN, USA
Located on an island close to the Mackinac Bridge in Northern Michigan, this family cottage is nestled into the native pine trees and enjoys views over the clear waters of Lake Huron. The rustic structure is designed as a multi-generational gathering place for the family to reconnect and recharge. The construction of this cottage was no simple feat—a large portion of the work flow involved coordinating ferry deliveries, finding temporary accommodations for laborers on the island, preparing much of the structure off-site and racing to get the cottage enclosed before the ferry stops running and the island winters over. Construction time was minimized using timber frame components which were brought on site pre-cut, pre-finished, and ready to assemble. Fast pace for island construction, the project took two seasons to complete.
A process committed to collaboration and exploration.
