Monarch Field

RICHFIELD, OHIO, USA

With the Moniker of “Monarch Field” as a nod to the butterflies’ migration landing zone on the property, this residence was designed to resonate with its’ agrarian site bordering the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  The subtle form inflection brings a welcoming and informal vibe to this rustic house built of stone, slate and timber.  Interior spaces continue the informal feel as the relatively open plan defines unique spaces through ceiling height articulation and material change.  The owners’ love and support of the Park comes through in material choices and many details, especially the 3 story viewing tower which houses a lookout lounge.   Envisioned as a place for family gatherings and fundraising events, this house sits as a testament to the owners’ love of family, nature and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

In collaboration with Heartland Stairways, the Monarch Field grand stair won Best Curved Modern/Freeform category at the 2024 Staircraft Awards in Tucson, AZ.
