Cottage in the Woods

Located on a densely wooded site that contains a primary home designed by the firm 15 years earlier, this modest cottage quietly nestles in the woods and takes full advantage of its woodland setting. A loose forest opening is framed by the cottage and small garage/workshop structure, forming an informal courtyard entry to the cottage. Upon entry, the soaring Douglas fir roof structure frames the landscape beyond as the space seems to levitate above the forest floor. At night the structure glows like a lantern in the woods, creating an ambiance of welcome and warmth.
